Anyone knows: Taj, Imaam Odeen, and Sadagee; 74 vill. 69 vill. 78 vill. Corentyne, Berbice?
Let me just say, I am really bad at spelling names. So forgive me, if the above individuals are in some way related or known to you. My name is Shazeda, and I am searching for relatives of my father's father, aka my Dada's family. My dad's dad's dad, was disowned by his family(an unfortunate turn of events, for I am sure the reasons in their own right was legitimate, however, in this day in age, I think, if you are in some manner related to me, we should forgive said transgressions and move on...because if you are really related to me I am eager to know more of our shared familial history! He died when he was 40. Leaving a widow to tend to many young children, of which included my dada, who was at the time of his father's death only 10. My grandfather, dada, died when I was only 3 yrs old, so I do not know much about him, nor does my father know much history. So here's what I do know based on my father and daddima's account. Taj owned a lot of land. He had a big cane field in 74 village, Corentyne, Berbice. His father-in-law is Pakistani. Taj's wife name is pronounced as "sabrah", he has only one daughter (that my father knows of). He owned a private car. My father, Allim Khan, received a salary for the first time when he was 17 year's old from this individual, of $4 a day checking the weight of cane trucks. Imaam Odeen (I am almost certain I am spelling this name incorrectly, I apologize), he is my dada's first cousin. A civil engineer, he had a big saw mill at 78 village masjid (I'm sure it was near the masjid, I don't think it was the masjid...I'll have to check my sources), Courentyne, Berbice. Based on what I've drawn from everyone's knowledge, Imaam Odeen's saw mill burned down, he took money, ran to Nickerie, Suriname, and from there fled to Holland. (Of course, he perhaps had some sort of legitimate reason for doing so, nonetheless, that is in the past, as such, will stay there, but for genealogical purposes I bring it up) Imaam Odeen and Taj are, based on my knowledge though I could be wrong, are brothers. Their father "Kabil" (as pronounced) is my dad's dad's dad's brother. Kabil's father name is speculated as being, Noor Khan. Though I could be wrong, but that is what has been suggested by my elders. Sadajee (how I pronounce it), another name I have possibly spelt wrong, he too owned a saw mill in 78 village Corentyne, Berbice. If anyone has heard of these individuals, know of these individuals, are related to these individuals, please do not hesitate to respond to this thread. I have been successful in tracing back my mother's side of the family (i.e. Such a Long Journey--my mom's dad's dad's dad's dad's dad's family). But I have yet to delve into my father's side and I would really appreciate it, if ANYONE who is familiar with these regions, 74 village, 78 village, 69 village, could give me some information, if in fact, my gathered data is insufficient or lacking in some manner. If you have any information, please do share. Thank you for your time. Sincerely, Ms. Shazeda Khan |

I'm sorry, but what do you mean by "dates"?
Dates as to when they lived? Dates when I got this information? And who is Chief? |

Hi Shazeda Chief is a member of the GNI forum. there are alot of Berbician members on the forum. i hope some gniers may be able to help you with your request for info on your family. Sometimes more info you provide can trigger a memory about people who lived in those villages at the time of your ggrand parents family. The dates Petal meant was years they may have lived in those villages as many ppl migrated to NA and may have known some info that can help. Check the other forums to be familiar with the posters and dont be afraid to ask for info regarding your family history. |

I will try to contact Chief.
What I do know, is that the time frame that my dad knew them in 74, 78, 69 village, was up until perhaps 1975 or around that time, because my dad said they left for Canada. That's what my dad remembers, though I think it would be safe to say, 1970s. |

Spoke to my Grandmother, and she was calling all these names. It seems that almost everyone from these villages are related...there are the Jabars, the Gulmohameds, the Deens, the Gaffoors, the Khans among others.unfortunately, all the older folks have passed on and the younger ones have no idea as to the family history.

Besides the fact that everyone seems to be somehow related, did she tell you any stories?
Like what they were like? Where they lived? Where did all these people go? Where the descendants are perhaps located? About these Jabars and Gulmohameds....what did she mention about them? Anything in particular? Like...did they live in the same village? How were they related to Taj, Imaam Odeen, etc? Thanks for taking the time to ask your grandmother! I really appreciate it! And this knowledge that you have ascertained is certainly going to be helpful in helping me find (eventually) the Emigration Passes.

Thank you everyone! I really appreciate all your help!
Unfortunately, it appears as though I've reached a deadend in terms of speaking with the family. But, I will continue the search and try to find out my ancestral history. Thanks again! |
