Has anyone ever heard of ElizaMarie or Ramamatan from either 55, 56, or 57 village?

My elders remember vague details and I am hoping someone out there might know a bit more, and can essentially shed some light on the correct or incorrect narration I have received about my family history.

Ramamatan, whose false name was "Dil", is my nana's nani.

It is said, 2 sisters, one of whom was Ramamatan's mother and the other Ramamatan's mosie, owned a plantation called "ElizaMarie" (pronounced in the way in it is spelt). Of which, some of the land was given to Ramamatan.

ElizaMarie, from my understanding was a sugar factory that was located in Springlands before moving to Skeldon.

Ramamatan was, also from my understanding, a very generous woman. Whenever a person would get married, she would give to them land or cattle, or both, as wedding presents.

Now, I am not certain as to which village she gave away land from, one of my nana's cousin's says it was 57 village, while the other said it was 56 village. And my nana said he would spend most of his time with Ramamatan in 55 village.

That's as much as I know about her and that area. If anyone knows anyone who might know anything regarding this, please do inform me.

And if you do not know anything, also please let me know.

Thank you so much for your time and patience, to address my query.

Regards,

Shazeda

Does anyone live in Georgetown, near where the National Archives are located?

I just found out, that the correct spelling for the plantation is: "Eliza & Mary", located originally in Springlands, Corentyne Berbice, but I believe, now currently located in No. 79 district.

I do not know if the National Archives will have info on who owned that plantation originally, but I am trying to pursue an alternative route to find info on my ancestor Ramamatan.

If anyone knows, please let me know.

Thanks!

Thanks!

Eliza&Mary does not exist any longer as you correctly stated it was originally in Springlands.

I read somewhere recently that the original owners of Skeldon had two daughters named Elizabeth and Mary....hence the name "Elizamarie" after them....

Somewhere in Skeldon there should be statues of the two girls.....I trust that the statues still exist....

No such statue in Corriverton.
Yes the plantation owner named the place after his dauhters and subsequently it was changed to Springlands.

Thanks for the info!

Does anyone from GT know of a place called "lands and surveys commission"?

Or even perhaps, if known, how to contact the people that work there.

Thanks again! I appreciate it! Smile
