Tanya Stephens, DCYR and Natural Black for National Park on Saturday June 16 [Guyana]

DYCR, Tanya Stephens and Natural Black are set to hit the stage at the National Park on June 16 in what is being touted as the largest show for the year.

Lion Heart and Conscious Minds Promotions' reggae extravaganza will also feature home-grown artistes such as Fojo, Little African, Malo, Gialiani and Typheon. The line up of obligatory sounds includes Stereo Sonic, Lion Heart, Slingers, Gold Stone, Riddim Squad and Aristocat.

They will prepare the audience for the internationally rated Tanya Stephens whose latest highly acclaimed album 'Rebelution' was expected to be nominated for the 2006 Grammy Awards; dub poet DYCR and Guyana's own Natural Black.

Promoter O'Neil 'Lion Heart' Lawrence said that Tanya and DYCR who are coming to Guyana for the first time had to be confirmed for that date because of availability of the venue, and tour commitments. All the artistes would be in Guyana on the Thursday before the show.

Tickets for the Saturday June 16 reggae party will go on sale at Clairans (Claire is my cousin Smile cool.gif flag Smile), Johnny P, Giftland Office Max and Beepat's on the day of the show as the promotion team is not entertaining bootleggers.

DYCR is a Jamaican dub poet, like Mutabaruka. I came across his video on Suzie Q's site:

He has another song on Downsound Records site.

Blacks, Stephens, DYCR combo draws huge crowds

Saturday, June 23rd 2007

Since February when Akon rocked the National Park nothing has been bigger than Saturday when Natural Black and company locked the city rolling in busloads of fans from far and wide.

They were not disappointed as the show proved to be as good as it good gets considering that the clouds were overloaded and kept dumping their contents periodically throughout the night. Kicking off some time around 22:00 hrs with the sound systems Stereo Sonic and Lion Heart setting the tone, the event later saw Mingles Sound Machine, then Fojo, Little African, Alabama, First Born and Celeste David performing to a warm reception. The rain, which was threatening to dampen the atmosphere, moved in so that DYCR's performance, beginning at 00:30 hrs was viewed from on and under the stands as patrons ran for cover.

Nature then gave Natural Black a break. When he touched the stage, just around 01:00 hrs, the rain did not return in torrents until the end of the show. Though a number of observers felt he got off to the stage too early, Blacks performed many of his hits, including "Gideon Boot", "Lock This World", "It Nice" and "Far from Reality".

Tanya Stephens did not fail to delight the fans. Her reputation as a militant outspoken singjay who represents the real woman's point of view remained intact from the time she touched the stage a few minutes before 02:00 hrs. She too wheeled through a segment of hit after hit, doing "It's a Pity", "These Streets", "Handle the Ride" and "Little White Lie" among several others. As Tanya was getting ready to close out her segment by introducing the 'Rebelution Band' the rain revisited prematurely cutting off the niceties.
