Vermont International Reggae Music Festival
Main Event: August 10-12, 2007 in Rutland VT NE & NY Touring Events: May 25-July 29, various cities The Vermont International Reggae Music Festival (VIRMF) salutes the achievements and acknowledges the tremendous legacy of joy and service reggae music has brought to the communities of Vermont, New England and up and down the Eastern Seaboard. To it's visionaries and trail blazers, we owe a great debt of gratitude for having the courage to create such magic by bringing Reggae music to Vermont in the summer and in the freshness of Jah's Country. It is with humility and intention that we celebrate and honor the tradition of 21 years of reggae music in Vermont by presenting a truly International Reggae forum. Performers hail from Nigeria, Ethiopia, Brazil, Guinea, Native America, Senegal, St Croix VI, Ghana, Jamaica and the United States. Additional activities include Consciousness in Motion - skateboard and BMX exhibitions and workshops. One of the driving forces behind this festival is the charitable contributions the festival will provide. $5 from weekend ticket sales will go to the building of a school in Shashamane, Ethiopia; humanitarian relief in the Darfur Region of the Congo; and the building of Community Radio Stations in Africa (with the first project starting on Goree Island, Senegal, West Africa - the launching gate of the slave trade). This festival hopes and endeavors to make this a truly environmentally responsible festival by using solar energy for all vendors, recycling and biodiesel where possible. VIRMF supports local farmers by providing an organic farmers market on site for all campers and attendees. To bring light to this event, the Vermont International Reggae Music Festival will launch it's annual New England and New York Festival Tour starting May 25th and playing through July 29th. Past and present artists from the festival will be performing and discount tickets will be available. Go to www.vermontreggae.org for festival and tour information or call 413-367-9112. Look Forward to seeing all the positive people for the Festival and Tour! Source |
